Very straightforward and helpful as to not only what to say or not to say, but more importantly, WHY you should or should not say things...
This heart felt work of creativity is a must read. So often words just slip from our lips without thought. Leach guides the reader through thoughtful expressions that can be used when someone has cancer. Great book!
Well, many of us have been there, or may be there one day; encountering someone who will end up diagnosed with the dreaded “C” word. (Just the fact that it is called the “big C” means that we all have a little room to learn to be more empathetic and tactful in our dealings with our loved one.)
It is surprising from the dialogue given, how with human nature, the things that we tell the other person upon getting the news, how we can come across as flip, insincere, or slightly tactless in our own responses. This is more than avoiding a potential faux pas; this is a guide that teaches us how to put ourselves in the patient’s shoes even though we have never been there ourselves.
As they say, “what goes around, comes around” so that is why it is very important to be there for our loved ones in their time of need if we would hope for support from them as well one day. With the prevalence today of this devastating disease, sooner or later we will encounter someone in our world who will not want to be isolated out on a limb to cope with the big C. Thank you for creating this guide in the first place!
I just read this book and really wished I would of had the words of wisdom from this book when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Thank you Ashley for giving me these tools to read.
This is not worth the money. I read it in about 10 minutes. Nothing but basic common sense suggestion. I cannot see it helping anyone.
