"YOU DESERVED SO MUCH MORE, LITTLE FLOWER. YOU DESERVED A WAKANDA THAT CHERISHED YOU." Writer ROXANE GAY (Bad Feminst, Hunger) spins a Wakandan love story — its tenderness matched only by its brutality. You know them now as The Midnight Angels, but in this story they are just Ayo and Aneka, young women recruited to become Dora Milaje, an elite task force trained to protect the crown at all costs. What happens when your nation needs your hearts and minds, but you already gave them to each other? Illustrated by industry veteran ALITHA E. MARTINEZ (Iron Man, Black Panther). And in a special backup story, acclaimed poet YONA HARVEY (Hemming the Water) explores the true origins of The People's mysterious leader Zenzi. Black Panther thinks he knows who Zenzi is and how she got her powers, but he only knows part of the story… Illustrated by rising star AFUA RICHARDSON (Genius).

If this series didn't get cancelled, this would be an EASY recommendation. Great artwork, unique storyline that you won't see anywhere else in comics and the writing backs all of it up. My issue is that:1. The main storyline is really issue 1-4 in this book and issues 5 & 6 are sub plots of new characters (who if I had to guess, would have been integrated into the main story in later issues).
2. The story doesn't end with this book.
Its a shame because I enjoyed this title. The Dora Milaje is one of the most appealing parts of the Black Panther Universe. The fact that a rich, black king of the most advanced country in the world has beautiful, bad-ass, female bodyguards is amazing and I was pleased to see that this book got to peek behind the curtain to reveal what goes on behind the ranks of the group. This book did a great job of having T'Challa take a backseat and letting the ladies tell their story of Wakanda from a woman's point of view. What is it like being the personal security of royalty, while dealing with your own issues?
Again, great book, but the only knock is that you won't get the pleasure of finishing this awesome story. I think if this were to have been released a year later, then it could have survived, but for now, if you're a Black Panther die-hard then give this a read.

Black Panther World of Wakanda 20162017 #1 eBook TaNehisi Coates Roxane Gay Yona Harvey Alitha Martinez Afua Richardson Reviews
This is my second graphic novel series (March was also excellent). The story and artwork is so beautiful both aesthetically and symbolically. Both are rich with incredible depth.
This would have been much better if it was actually all 6 issues of the mini series, as the link and ISBN implied. Great comic though.
Loved this comic filled with action, romance, and dynamic female characters. The connection between the main characters immediately sucked me in. So sorry this won't be continued.
I love all of these Black Panther books. What I appreciate most -- honestly -- is the ability to keep them on my & the guided reading makes it really easy to read what I worried would be cramped on an e-reader. I wish the books that include more than one volume had a TOC that worked, but other than that, great stuff. (I'm putting these here to get the massive comic book mess off my review page.)
This is the 1st time I've read the back story or any story regarding Black Panther. Now I'm intrigued and must read the next comic book in the series. I rated this book 5 stars because it had all of the qualities of a fantastic sci-fi or fantasy book plus well drawn, beautiful graphics that at times, made me pause and stare at the page. I look forward to getting to know each character as I continue my journey into the world of Wakanda.
World of Wakanda was a short six issues series that largely provided the origins story of the Black Panther A Nation Under Our Feet. The first four were written by Roxane Gay and cover Ayo and Aneka two of the Dora Milaje who fall in love with each other, but at the same time fall out of love with T’Challa. After so many wars, and the Panther’s continued absence from Wakanda, which had been a revolving issue within the franchise, they feel like they need to serve the country more than the monarchy. They would go on to start a rebellion in A Nation Under Our Feet. Next is one issue by Yona Harvey and Ta-Nehisi Coates about the rise of Zenzi, an impoverished girl from Niganda who seeks revenge on the wealthier neighbor Wakanda. She would join a man named Tetu and start a separate insurgency that challenges the Panther. The last issue is unconnected from the others as it revolves around a New York cop Cole who had been asked to cover for T’Challa before in the city, and is once again recruited by him to take care of some traders in illegal vibranium.
The stories are strong and interesting, and if you liked the A Nation Under Our Feet series this provides more to that tale. My one complaint is that the artwork in the first four issues is not strong. Too many soft lines for my liking.
This book is beautifully drawn and masterfully written. It is Afrocentric and rich. Reading it feels luxurious. I find the characters very compelling and the story arc is heading in a fascinating direction. Can't wait to read more!
